Breastfeeding Resources for Pregnant Participants

Jackson County WIC is here to support you in your breastfeeding journey. In fact, 98% of WIC moms start out breastfeeding!

WIC-BreastfeedingBabies who breastfeed have lower risks of certain diseases and infections, including:

  • ear infections,
  • asthma,
  • lower respiratory infections,
  • diarrhea and vomiting,
  • childhood obesity,
  • eczema,
  • type 2 diabetes,
  • childhood leukemia, or
  • sudden infant death syndrome

For moms, breastfeeding can help you recover more quickly from childbirth and reduce risks of breast and ovarian cancer, as well as type II diabetes.

WIC is here to help! We know how challenging, but also wonderful, breastfeeding can be, and we are here to support you. All WIC staff are trained to provide basic breastfeeding education and support. Our CLC (Certified Lactation Counselors) staff provide one on one counseling and consultations when more support is needed. To schedule an appointment with one of our breastfeeding specialists, call 541-774-8203 or text ‘JCWIC’ to 855-11.

While you’re pregnant, learn as much as you can about breastfeeding. Attend one of our breastfeeding classes (text BF class to 855-11) and read about breastfeeding at the links provided below.
